Routine Personal Care, Complex Care and Hygiene Functions

Second Family PSWs ensure dignity and confidence when assisting with bathing in bath, shower or bed.  Caregivers can help with shaving, oral hygiene, hair care and applying cosmetics as desired .  Staff are experienced with limb prostheses, stump socks, braces, splints, supports and elastic stockings.  Caregivers ensure prostheses are properly maintained and in good working condition and adjust prostheses when necessary.

PSWs attend to skin care needs by applying non-medicated creams, lotions, pastes, ointments and powders.  Staff can check the body for evidence of pressure sores, skin breakdown or eruptions which can help prevent or minimize these conditions.

Our Certified PSWs assist with Genitourinary and Bowel Care: position, empty and clean drainage systems, clean Client and equipment after incontinence/procedures.  As required, Staff will use disposable briefs, attend to menstrual cycle needs and monitor residuals.

Homemaking, Nutrition and Medication

Often times, injury and recovery can temporarily or permanently change mobility and range of motion.  PSWs can assist clients into and from sitting positions, can perform transfers between mobility devices and assist Client getting into and out of a wheelchair.  Our staff help Clients with walking activities using crutches, canes, braces and/or walkers.

Our Caregivers carefully follow the approved plan of care and positively encourage Clients when assisting Clients with their exercise, stretching, or physio programs.

Most importantly, in the case of emergency where Clients lack the ability to respond to an emergency or need custodial care due to changes in behaviour, our Caregivers offer reliable and trustworthy supervision.

Coordination of Care

Our team approach to Caregiving ensures that we are able to proactively assist our Clients in coordinating and scheduling their Attendant Care Services to best achieve their recovery timeline and goals.

We work closely with Disability Managers, Occupational Therapists, Private Insurance Adjustors, WSIB and Personal Injury Lawyers to ensure open and efficient communication between all parties involved.
